having a look around, it took nearly 2 hours before they had all left the shed
getting them back in was fun, we pretty much had to corner them to catch them, they are quick & they let me know for about half an hour how unhappy they were to be put back into the shed.

I understand what you mean about chooks being so hard to 'round up' our new ones take at least 15mins to chase into the house.
Your girls are so tiny! It won't be long before they start laying though...

So excited to see all your hard efforts being put to use! That chook shed is a dream and the run is so big. They're going to love it there.
I find the best way to catch chooks is with at least 1 if not 2 other people. We corral ours like sheep. Spread our arms low and wide, then gradually move in until they're pressed against one wall.
You can generally pick them off one by one then. But I've only done that with older chooks - not the littlies.

oh - little darlings!!! I just don't know how you can't LOVE chooks. You amaze me - that door is so good and your enclosure all done. Looks great. Once they get used to the in/out routine they'll be fine. One of ours didn't come out for three months and now she is confident. Lovely little things.
I'd love to have some chooks here in the inner city. My farmer brother thinks there is a mobile chicken coop you can buy to wheel around on the lawn. Wonder (a) if they exist and (b) if my local council would allow it.
Actually, the main hurdle would be my hubby!
hey Megan they are called chook tractors, & im sure if you only get a couple it would be fine. tell hubby how they will eat all your veggie scraps & supply you with fresh eggs for his sunday breakfast.
Megan if you live in Sydney you could try Rentachook. You get to try before you buy and then you can convince hubby how good they are - it worked on mine!
I think there is something similar in Brisbane too but not sure about other places.
